I've been looking for a can opener like this for many years. Many years ago, when they first appeared, there was a similar one. Eventually it wears out and since then I've had to use the old-fashioned kind and even the expensive brands leave behind sharp and rusty lids and the cutting disc harbors unimaginable germs that nest in any open can. But this type of can opener leaves smooth edges on both the can and the lid after opening, and the mechanical parts that actually cut are NEVER immersed in the contents of the can. This opener basically removes the entire top of the can - the lid and the metal lip attached to it - by going around the outside of the lid rather than cutting through the top. There is a very small learning curve the first time you use it, but it's very easy to understand.
