Good Design for Remote Controls

This is an overview of the Litex Industries Universal Ceiling Fan and Lighting Remote Control Upgrade Kit. For reference, this ceiling fan remote control kit is rated for the maximum motor amperage according to the packaging. 1.25 and a maximum light output of 300 watts. According to the packaging, this remote control kit is NOT designed for Hugger type ceiling fans, but it fits my 40 inch Hugger fan well. This remote control kit remembers the fan speed setting and light dimming setting when powering off. So if your ceiling fan is powered by a light switch, you can use the light switch to turn the fan off and on, and the fan and light will be restored to the state they were in when the light switch turned off the power there no DIP switches for the remote control After you have connected everything, switch the power back on (turn on the light switch) and within 30 seconds of turning on the device, press the hidden button in the battery compartment of the remote control. The newly installed fan control box learns the remote control and that's it. The Hugger fan I installed it on is a 4 blade fan that is about 40-42 inches. It uses a small sealed motor of about 1 amp. There was enough room above the motor to attach the fan control box to the ceiling mount above my fan motor. To do this I had to remove the light hanging under the fan (three screws and two wires), then remove the four fan blades (two screws for each blade), and then remove the decorative motor cover (four screws) to reveal the motor and ceiling mount bracket. Because my fan used a small 1 amp sealed motor, I had enough room to attach the fan control box to the ceiling mount, connect the remote control, and reattach the decorative cover. Then the blades, then the lamp. I also replaced four incandescent bulbs with four dimmable LED bulbs, each putting out 60 watts of light while using only 9.5 watts of electricity. The bulbs packaging specifically states that they are dimmer compatible and will work great with the dimming feature of this kit. Things to Note: Since you are exposing your ceiling fan motor, it is now time to lubricate the bearings. My fan is probably 25-30 years old and the bearings started making a clicking noise a while ago. I went ahead and removed the motor from the overhead mount and lubricated the top and bottom bearings with 3-in-1 oil as best I could. Now my fan runs silently.

Pros
  • Great Design
Cons
  • Crumpled Packaging
