Review on High-Speed Network Connectivity: Jeirdus Ethernet Gigabit Desktop PCIe Network Card Controller Adapter with Intel 82573L Chipset 10/100/1000M by Paul Rose

Revainrating 4 out of 5

So far so good on my TrueNAS

I was a bit nervous about getting this card as the obvious description of 'English as a second language' gave the impression that maybe it would be but maybe, it's not true, no, but it may have worked on an Intel chip and based on reviews reporting non-Intel chips. However, when I installed it on my Truenas server to FINALLY replace the built-in junk (realtek, yes I should have read the compatible NICs section on the build) the system booted immediately and even showed the Intel BIOS prompt. for each chip/port on the card. I still wasn't 100% sure, so I booted up a live Linux distribution to see what the card actually reported about its chips. This is a dual card and both chips are Intel capable. This does not mean that they are not fake. China has proven that it knows no bounds when it comes to chip hacking to present seemingly genuine identities/traits. I did some sort of stress test after uploading to Truenas by copying 1TB of data, and the transfer rate stayed stable at 103-105 MB/s (capital B for byte, not Mbit/s for bit), which is satisfyingly close to gigabit lies. my network rating. I was also streaming to 2 devices simultaneously from a Plex running on a server. never liked Airborne debris regularly fails at less than half that capacity. Let's see how it behaves over time. I will update if anything changes. I'll also update if I ever get around to updating the rest of my network to speed up and/or handle aggregation so I can properly test this feature.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors
