Not as easy as you think

This is a deceptively simple little stove with rather complicated instructions. at least not for this cook. The idea is certainly simple: add water, rice and a microwave. However, the cooking time in the microwave is different for each type of rice and each amount of rice. Two pages of microscopic charts for these times and amounts are "conveniently" included. So I found my reading glasses and good light, squinted and cooked brown rice, one serving, as directed. I ended up with a chewy, hard, inedible little black rice-like mass. Then I noticed that all the instructions were for an 800w microwave and mine is 1.7kW. So for one person, for brown rice, I need to experiment more. and once I understand this recipe, I'll have to figure out how to adapt it to brown rice for six, then white rice for six, and so on and so on. Maybe a pattern will emerge. Yes, ovens and ranges have similar problems, but I think they would be a lot easier to fix than mismatches in microwave ovens. I'm pretty sure I won't be making any rice for company any time soon, although I'm hoping to have the courage to perfect a one-serving whole grain recipe, preferably by the time that bag of rice is gone. NEXT TRY: I cut my microwave time in half because my microwave is more than twice as powerful as the instructions say. and somehow the rice disaster was even worse this time. The inner pot dissolved in the charred rice mass and completely destroyed my rice cooker. Maybe I should have reduced the power, not the minutes. Also, I've noticed that the times for brown rice in the charts seem inconsistent compared to other types of rice, so maybe that's a typo. CONCLUSION: I liked the idea so much that I ordered another record. I intend to proceed with great caution and eventually master a serving. I don't think I'll ever use it for a business.
