Popular after fixing sleep problem

StarTech. If you are reading this please try to fix it! I even did some analysis and found a workaround for you. At least you can take my assessment into account and solve the problem. Minus 1 star for the fact that DisplayLink/StarTech cannot provide drivers/software to solve the adapter sleep problem. If I hadn't come up with the solution myself, this product would only have received 2 stars. This device is perfect after I created a batch script to solve the problem that two external monitors remained in sleep mode after the computer was turned off. Wake up. I will explain how to make your own following the Cons section below. Some people have mentioned that this happens to them from time to time. For me, the problem usually occurs after the computer wakes up from sleep mode. Benefits: 1) Delivers operationally perfect digital video/audio (audio only via HDMI connection) to two external 1920x1080 monitors via USB 2.0 connection. The device is connected to a hub that also connects the keyboard and mouse. 2) Can display DVD quality on two external monitors at the same time without excessive CPU usage. 3) I can't talk about gaming but my main goal is to use my laptop as a development machine. The adapter is more than sufficient for development and other office functions. 4) Also works with Mac Mini running Lion OS. No waking up problems I've experienced on Windows 7 and 8 computers 5) Autonomous power supply. No additional energy is required. 6) Customer Service. They couldn't figure out the problem, but at least they tried. Cons: 1) Two external monitors connected to the adapter usually do not work after the laptop (Windows 8) wakes up from sleep mode. I would have to unplug and plug the USB cable back in to turn the adapter back on. This is not a good solution as I am trying to minimize wear and tear on the USB connector and it is very difficult to physically disconnect/reconnect the USB cable. Correction: I contacted StarTech about my issue. They told me to disable "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" for the USB hubs listed in Device Manager. Unfortunately, they ignored the fact that I told them that the problem occurs whether I plug the adapter directly into the laptop OR through a USB hub. But like I said, they tried. by the way. I tried her recommendation even though I knew it wouldn't work. It did not work. I then did some analysis of the processes running on my computer and found that there is a windows service that controls the functionality and communication between the computer and the adapter. Show link service. Through the Windows Services Management Console, I was able to turn the two external monitors back on by restarting the DisplayLinkService. So I created a batch file (FixDisplay.bat), added the following three lines to the batch file and saved it on my desktop for quick access: sc stop DisplayLinkServicesleep 2sc start DisplayLinkService Let me explain each command so you know what's going on and I'm sure this is not a malicious script. The first line stops the DisplayLinkService. The second line pauses the batch request to allow the batch stop request to complete. The last command line starts the DisplayLinkService. Now that external monitors don't wake up after waking the computer from sleep, I just double-click the FixDisplay.bat file saved on my desktop. Just a note. Depending on your UAC settings, you may need to enable the batch file to run under an elevated account (e.g. Administrator) as the commands in the batch file will start/stop the installed Windows service. The best solution would be if the drivers actually worked properly to wake up the adapter properly. But if DisplayLink and/or StarTech don't fix this issue, my custom solution will work. The solution is definitely better than unplugging and plugging in the unavailable USB cable.

Pros
  • MAXIMUM COMPATIBILITY: The adapter makes it easy to add multiple monitor capabilities to a USB-enabled desktop or laptop (optimal USB 3.0 performance, backward compatible with USB 2.0).
Cons
  • unreliable
