My dog had a bout of pancreatitis. After he recovered, the vet wanted him to continue feeding Royal Canin dog food. The canned food had great ingredients, but it's very expensive. Dry food is nothing but crappy ingredients. After a lot of research and phone calls to a dog food company to find out the actual amount of fat and fiber per serving (they are vastly different from what is advertised on the packaging), I found that this company and formula was highly rated for the condition, health and ingredients are amazing. To update. I had to put my dog off this food. I believe the second ingredient is pea protein. Peas are good for dogs. However, pea powder has been found to affect some dogs' hearts and can irritate the gastrointestinal tract, causing blood in the stool and diarrhea. Here's what happened to mine. It's now on Hill ID's low-fat recipe. I was worried about by-products so I called the company. I'm told the by-products are chicken hearts, livers, and gizzards. The vet feeds it to his dog. He's better and he likes food.
