I bought this for a friend who wanted to save $8 a month on his cable TV bill. It was hooked up to the cable line and all the lights were on, but when we called Comcast they couldn't see it on their system. After a little troubleshooting in the phone, there was nothing left but to connect the old modem. Curious if I could somehow get it to work on my own, I hooked it up to the cable line and then straight to the laptop. Even though all the lights were on, my laptop got a private IP address of 192.168.100.x. So I opened firefox, typed in the modem control page address (192.168.100.1) and did a factory reset from there. After rebooting, the modem was given a public address of 50.xxx on the Comcast network. So I called them again and this time there was no problem with activation. The modem works great - I get 30MB down, 10MB in speed tests which is the top of my Comcast service level.
