I bought four of these cameras to use in two different locations, mainly because of the notification feature which sends you an email when the camera detects movement or sound. What Nest doesn't mention in its promotional materials is that its software, which minimizes false positives, is only active if you sign up for the monthly Nest Aware subscription. When this software is not active, minor movements (a small bug, sunlight, shade, etc.) will trigger an email with false activity alerts. I literally get dozens of bad email notifications a day. I spoke to Joshua from Nest's product support team. He confirmed that the only solution to the problem is to sign up for Nest's monthly service. An annual subscription to Nest Aware costs more than I paid for the cameras. To make matters worse, they include a month of Nest Aware with your first hardware purchase, so many false email alerts don't start until after the 30-day return period has passed. There are better ways.
