I use this air freshener in the basement, not in the car. The top cover has holes; the inner lid is solid. In order for the fragrance to disperse, you must remove the inner cap. I have the scent of iris. The aroma is not very strong. I use it on an area larger than a car. No wonder I can hardly smell. The scent is floral but doesn't smell like the irises that grow in my garden.
