I thought of nothing when I ordered a table lamp to use as aquarium lighting for my small faucet at work. It is touch activated, you touch the power button to turn it on or off or adjust the brightness. Well, unfortunately it doesn't work with my timer. The timer can turn the light off but not on, so I needed a small, waterproof flashlight to hook it up to the timer so my poor fish wouldn't sit in the dark when I'm away for the weekend. The whole time. So I ordered this lantern and planned to take my table lamp home to use on another tank at home. Well, now the lamp stays because while this light works well, it doesn't illuminate the tank as much as I thought it would. and I have plants. Of course these are low light plants and will probably be fine, just wish there was a little lighter in the tank. I also have some floating plants so the light from above makes them look amazing. However, I went ahead and set the timer on a timer so that no matter what (if I got sick, was late for work, had to leave for whatever reason) my fish at least had a light that was on and went out at the same time and at the same time every day. I turn the desk lamp back on and can turn it on when I'm here and off when I leave. In a way I think it will give him a sunrise and sunset light schedule, except on weekends. Every weekend will be like a cloudy day for him lol. But at least he's not sitting in the dark! The light is cool in tone, although very pleasing to look at, just not as bright as I would like. The description said it was great for night vision, but I assumed it would do for day vision since I have such a small tank, and that's up to a point. As it was my fault I don't have to deduct any stars from the rating but be aware that if you buy it for daylight it's not that bright! This would be absolutely perfect for night lighting in a large aquarium! It seems to be qualitatively made, the suction cups are wonderful. We'll see how it holds up for me, but so far so good! I've attached a picture (which doesn't really show the difference) that only MingDak lights up and MingDak + my table lamp lights up at the same time. This gives you a comparison of how two shades of light compare: the MingDak light gives everything a bluish tint, and the other light makes the colors really pop.
