It has an odor, but it's a good belt.
I love the strap but I can't get rid of the smell of tannins and colors. Washed 3 times with saddle soap, Murphy's Oil soap and used silicone waterproofing spray and it still smells. Also put in the sun for 6 hours. The belt is well made.
