Review on Protect Your Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra: Heavy Duty Poetic TurtleSkin Case With Kid-Friendly Design by Darrell Kiley

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Generally a good case with one exception.

There aren't too many case options for the S8 Ultra - I'm guessing because the tablet isn't selling all that well due to the price. Due to the lack of good-quality keyboard folio options, I've decided to go with using a separate keyboard/trackpad while keeping the tablet itself in its own case. This case had reasonable reviews and wasn't terribly expensive, so I decided to go for it. Overall, I'm happy with the case, though there are some slight annoyances that make this a 4-star product to me. I've been using it for a couple of months now, though, and still haven't found a suitable alternative, so I guess that speaks for itself.THE GOOD:- The case itself is well-built and fits the S8 Ultra perfectly. All of the cutouts are in the right place, the sizing feels right, and the button cutouts still provide good tactile feedback when pressed (sometimes an issue with cases). There's no overhang on the front-facing camera module, which I was a bit worried about as the case gets quite close to the camera. I agree with other reviewers that the case doesn't have enough reinforcement, for lack of a better word, to remain close to the back of the tablet in the center. I don't find this to be a problem in day-to-day use, but it's noticeable. The case also adds quite a bit of thickness to the tablet. For me, this isn't a huge issue, but if you're wanting to keep the ultra thin S8 Ultra thin, you probably won't like this case. On the plus side, this case offers extensive drop and bump protection, which I have yet to be able to find with other alternatives and is my main priority.- Some reviewers noted that the back of the case doesn't have sufficient grip, but I haven't found this to be an issue. The "grippiness" is definitely an improvement over the stock tablet, though I do agree that some texture on the back - maybe some stippling? - would be a nice touch. I use this tablet everyday and carry it for hours a day, though, and have never dropped it.- The S Pen holder is excellent. Samsung's implementation of the Apple-inspired magnetic charging is a total hassle to use as you have to be relatively precise in how you position the S Pen to get it to attach and charge, but this case makes accurate positioning of the pen much easier. Unlike the iPad Pro that I was using previously, the S Pen isn't going to come out once attached, and the S Pen sits flush against the rest of the case. This is far superior to the stock experience - where the S Pen sticks out from the back of the tablet and is very easy to knock off - and makes it essentially impossible to lose your S Pen when attached to the tablet.THE MEH:- I wish this case had an integrated kickstand. I ended up buying a third-party, generic phone/tablet kickstand on Walmart that I just slapped on the back which works perfectly, but an integrated kickstand would've been a nice touch.THE BAD:- Other reviewers have commented that swiping from the edge of the screen is difficult with this case installed, and that's absolutely been my experience. It's pretty annoying and significantly cuts down on the tablet's usability. I mostly use the tablet with the S Pen which provides a fine point to be able to access the notification menu, the back swiping gesture, etc., but it's quite difficult to do this with your fingers unless you have extremely small fingers. Unless most phone/tablet cases, this case has a very thick bezel that fully covers the edges of the screen, cutting down the available screen area to access these gestures. I've just accepted this limitation as I otherwise like the case, but be aware that this will be a problem, especially if you plan to use the tablet primarily with your hands. For <$30, overall I'm happy with this tablet. I've continued to use it despite the major annoyance above, simply due to the lack of available options. With a kickstand and thinner bezels on the screen side, this would be a near-perfect case. Recommended as long as you can look past these shortcomings.
