Review on Acer Monitor FreeSync Premium Technology 23.8", 1920X1080, 165Hz, Wide Screen, ‎UM.QP1AA.P01, HD by Jeffrey Homes

Cheap gaming monitor

Pros: Only $200 at the time of writing this article. 144 Hz refresh rate, 1 ms response time, 8 preset monitor profiles. Cons: no built-in speaker. Many monitors with these specs cost upwards of $300, but Acer has everything the modern 1080p gamer needs for just $200. I like the 144Hz refresh rate. I've only used 60Hz monitors so far and let me say that 144Hz definitely makes a difference when it comes to gaming. I played GTA V on this monitor alongside my old 60Hz monitor and the picture quality was surprisingly smoother and sharper. The monitor also has an Eco function that reduces brightness and makes it easier to see colors when you're gaming late at night. Another reason I chose this monitor is Acer's reputation for making high quality monitors. Other gaming monitors competing in this price range try to offer the same specs but do so at the expense of quality. I've had this monitor for two months now and my brother who bought a Scepter brand monitor is already noticing dead pixels. The only downside I can think of for this monitor is the lack of a built-in speaker. This can be a hurdle for some people, but you can honestly buy $10 Revain speakers that have the same sound quality as traditional built-in speakers (which I did). With that in mind, I expect to keep it. The monitor will be used for the next few years until 4K gaming becomes a more realistic option for casual gamers. Definitely worth the money.
