FIRE/SHOCK HAZARD - Seasonal Decoration

This is a beautiful star to look at, but an electrical engineer says it poses a risk of fire and electric shock. This is a 2 wire 120VAC circuit DIRECT to all bulbs. There is no step-down transformer, so the output voltage circulates through the metal device, including each lightbulb. To save money on the transformer they eliminated one and connected 120VAC to the front for the unit and the ground wire was NOT (third pin). The lamps heat up very quickly, and if you short-circuit when touched, you will receive an electric shock. Of course, this product is NOT UL listed. When I first plugged it in, it literally melted and smoked one of the bulbs and the whole star went out. It's definitely not what you want on your tree or in wet areas. I didn't send the star back because it's a good star. Before I hung it on our Christmas tree though, I took the star apart and threw away all of its 120VAC wiring and replaced everything from a transformer to hot incandescent bulbs and unprotected high voltage with low voltage LED lights.
