Running High Sierra (10.13.6) on a Late 2011 15" Macbook Pro 8.2. First go to the Hideez website and find out how to install a Bluetooth -Set up dongle for Mac. There are 2 ways to switch from your internal bluetooth module to the dongle. The first is to use Bluetooth Explorer (BTE), a very simple method that works with many other dongles. If you use your Restarting computer, you unfortunately have to open BTE every time and change the settings, but the best way, and where this key gets more interesting, is that you use a terminal and type: sudo nvram bluetoothHostControllerSwitchBehavior=always, then just type in your password and reboot. This method works as of now. BTE does not need to open on every reboot. If you want to remove this change, go to Terminal and type: sudo nvram -d bluetoothHostControllerSwitchBehavior Even if you remove the key, the system will switch back to its internal bluetooth module if you have it or if it works. That's it, very simple, works great and now I have Bluetooth 4.0.
