Review on NEBO Transcend 1000-Lumen LED Headlamp Flashlight: 5 Modes, Rechargeable Head Lamp with Turbo Function & Adjustable Reflective Head Strap - Model 7001 by Mario Newton

Revainrating 5 out of 5

My new favorite headlamp!

I use it for: camping, cycling, DIY. The jet is wide and perfectly even. Management is EXCELLENT! USB battery! What needs improvement: Needs two hands to adjust the angle. OTOH, it never slips. ==== I am a fan of NEBO flashlights. These are solid, well thought out parts that I feel are perfect value for money. Out of the 5 or 6 I put together, this one really blew it out of the park. I use headlamps quite often when camping and this replaced the Black Diamond Spot which replaced the Petzl Tikka as my main headlamp. Tikka has never been bright enough (200 lumens) and Spot has complex controls. I'm VERY picky about flashlight controls. That's right. They do not go into strobe mode when cycling through the 3 levels of brightness. Click to turn it on and click to switch between high/medium/low/off. If you leave it on a setting long enough (10 seconds?), one click turns it off and the next click turns it on at the stored brightness. When on, press and hold to switch to turbo mode. Double click to activate the SOS flash. Brightness: 450 lumens max for 4 hours is the best you can get in this price range. 170 lm and 50 lm are sensible alternatives. Turbo mode is bright as hell and I actually use it more than I thought I would. Headband: The strap is decent, the clasp is tight. Two hands are required to change the tilt angle. I often tilt my headlamp when camping in a group so I don't blind people. One thing I did was take the strap off and attach it to a mountain bike helmet with velcro straps. This makes it a good auxiliary light for night driving. As a cross country light, it's too heavy. USB charging is amazing. The magnet is helpful. The metal body is durable. Best of all, it should be durable and simple. When I need a red light or when I've run cross country or need something that tilts or attaches to a baseball cap, I reach for something else. But when I need a bright, reliable and lightweight headlamp, this is my number one choice.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Unbelievable price
