It seems like the higher concentration of ethanol in the fuel is ruining the nitrified floats after just a few years, or maybe the manufacturers just don't seal them properly anymore? So I decided to try this and it works on my '78 305 2bbl with no problems. You'll need to "align" the float properly, of course, but apparently the old and new Rochester 2bbl models have the same tank dimensions. I also always run a new float in gasoline with a "soak test" overnight with a couple of small vises "holding" it to make sure it doesn't leak.
