Review on Cisco-Linksys WCF12 Wireless-B Network CompactFlash πŸ“Ά+ Card (Type I): Boost Your Wireless Connectivity! by Olusola Reid

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Not the best choice for wireless Zaurus networks (close to second?)

Reliable now that it works. It connects to my SMC base station at full speed and stays connected. Wireless browsing in Opera works great! Since this requires you to edit files in Zaurus, I wouldn't recommend this product to everyone. Find a wireless card from the supported list if you just want to plug it in and get it working. Do yourself a favor and download the open source wireless monitor app before trying to diagnose the problem. It will tell you if Zaurus failed to detect the map, signal strength, network discovery activity and SSID of the network Zaurus is connected to. If you browse the Zaurus configuration files you will see a full list of cards it recognizes (/etc/pcmcia/wlan-ng.conf). If I were to do it again, I'd do more research to find a comparable card that's just plug and play. Several Linksys boards, including the WCF11, are already in the wlan-ng.conf file. Another tip: position the base station away from the rest of the equipment to eliminate any possibility of other electronics ruining your signal. I added the following to /etc/pcmcia/wlan-ng.conf to make it work: card" My WCF12 nifty wireless card" manfid 0x028a, 0x0673 bind "prism2_cs" This tiny keyboard does the typing much easier! I didn't think of it, I just found it.

Pros
  • Brilliantly done
Cons
  • too dumb
