Fit for purpose, five years of daily use

Usage This is a four bay USB 3.0 docking station that accepts three SATA drives connected at the same time. I rarely turn it off, but I have a USB 3.0 hub plugged in and share other devices on that hub. I usually get 100-150MB of transfer and use it mainly to store the videos and photos I make and to store data for numerical analysis. Contrary to some other reviews, I don't hear much fan noise. You should be familiar with initializing hard drives on your system before using this device in Windows. I've used it on Windows 7 and 10 with no problems. I turned it off using the four front hard drive buttons and my workstation was powered off while it was active and I saw no problems other than restarting the copy process with separate hard drives. I'm not saying you should power off while processing, it's never recommended, but there doesn't seem to be any major issues than powering off an internal hard drive. I used a combination of Seagate, Toshiba and Western Digital. Hard drives of different sizes 1TB, 2TB and 4TB. I've heard from others that it works well with large drives, but haven't tried them yet. In five years of use, I have noticed that dust can get into the open socket. Be sure to use compressed air to blow it out of the socket. Connections in a dusty environment.

Pros
  • DOUBLE FANS. Keep your drives cool and prevent premature drive failure with the built-in dual 40mm fans in this multi-hard drive docking station.
