One year later - too many problems

- Verified by Startech. This is pretty reliable WHEN THE DRIVE IS CONNECTED. But the initial connection is unreliable. Something is wrong with the controller design. Sometimes it takes 5 minutes or more to mount a 4TB NTFS drive. The same drives with the same USB3 cable connected to the USB3 port of the same computer are instantly connected to a cheap dual dock. I really wanted to like it, but it was so annoying, so often, that I regret ever getting into it. β€’ Construction is very cheap. They…

  • POWERED SATA CONTROLLERS: With this hard disk docking station you will be able to work without any problems; It uses independent SATA controllers to ensure uninterrupted data transfer when hot-swapping other drives.
Cons
  • Functionality

Fit for purpose, five years of daily use

Usage This is a four bay USB 3.0 docking station that accepts three SATA drives connected at the same time. I rarely turn it off, but I have a USB 3.0 hub plugged in and share other devices on that hub. I usually get 100-150MB of transfer and use it mainly to store the videos and photos I make and to store data for numerical analysis. Contrary to some other reviews, I don't hear much fan noise. You should be familiar with initializing hard drives on your system before using this device in…

Pros
  • DOUBLE FANS. Keep your drives cool and prevent premature drive failure with the built-in dual 40mm fans in this multi-hard drive docking station.

Expensive but good for internal hard drives

This dock just works. I have tried other brands but often: a) There is not enough power to support 4 drives at the same time; and/or) You must reboot all disks to reboot one; and/or) You must restart your computer for new drives to be recognized in the docking station. This device has none of these problems. I'd say it's overpriced for what it is, but with built in fans and the ability to turn each of the 4 drives on and off individually, this is the best 4 drive bay dock you can buy in my…

Pros
  • Connect and swap four 2.5/3.5" SATA drives or SSDs via USB 3.0
Cons
  • Not bad, but...

Functionally, this device is almost perfect.

StarTech - SDOCK4U33 .com 4-Bay USB 3.0 hard disk docking station is functionally almost perfect. It works seamlessly with Windows 10 even when connected to a USB hub. My only thought of its function is that the fans cooling the device seem to work whether the device is connected to a computer or not. I would like the fans to stop when the computer is turned off, but unfortunately they still run. As expected, I get full control over individual drives, good input and output over USB 3.0. I found

Pros
  • Docking and exchange of hard disks directly in the computer system without assembly
Cons
  • Can't remember

The perfect removable external storage system is hard to find USB 3.0 for my hard drive library. I bought it some time ago and now (August 2018) I finally decided to review it as I'm glad it has served me for so long. It works great with all SATA hard drives, although you have to be careful with Toshiba drives as they have some issues with removal. I get good speeds copying data back and forth and I average between 50MB and 60MB/s. with 7200 drives. Of course, if you use slower drives, you will

Pros
  • SATA III (6Gb/s) and UASP support for optimal performance
Cons
  • Available in black only

The best hard drive dock I've ever used.

This is one of the best hard drive docks I have ever used. I've gone through dozens of docks and have a few that I no longer use for various reasons. Here are some reasons why I recommend this dock to others.1. Separate power switches for each drive. Each drive can be turned on and ejected separately in Windows. That's a big deal. I have multiple docks with multiple drives from other manufacturers that require you to load and eject all drives in the dock as a set.2. cooling fans. It is…

Pros
  • Compatible with USB-enabled computer systems such as Dell Optiplex, Apple Mac and MacBook and 2.5/3.5" SATA hard drives.
Cons
  • Nothing.
