Used for a small outdoor fountain. Works perfectly. It only has one speed (on or off). I use a PVC valve (from Lowe's) to control the flow of water into the fountain, so the level of the water can be adjusted with the valve. The pump simply sits at the bottom of an underground water box filled with water and the fountain sits on a bed of rock on top of the water box. Our fountain is about 36 inches high and the pump is about 12 inches below the fountain so the total water column is 4 feet. I use 1/2" hose. The pump has more power than I'm using - it will be bigger than our fountain, but I can't tell by how much.
