Review on Enhance Your Wii Gaming Experience with Nyko Charge Base IC for Wii by Tykesha Boothe

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Has served me for 4 years. I wish it would still work.

I bought this charger for my Wii remotes in April 2010 so I can't say I haven't used it much but the unit is almost at the end of its sell by date. I'll say right away that I would recommend it if it weren't for the problems I'm having now. If you don't mind having 4 years of it, by all means buy this thing. It looks fantastic, everyone wants to know how it works, it charges the remotes well until the batteries run out and after being boxed and moved several times while I've had it, it shows absolutely no wear. It charges through the traditional remote control cases (but not the black ones unless you cut them off) so you don't have to remove them to swap out traditional batteries. This model only charges 2 batteries at a time, but a version with 4 batteries removed was previously available. The biggest problem is the lack of replacement batteries that properly fit this charger. I would like to keep using it, but the batteries are not charging at all. In 4 years of using this product I had 2 main problems. Firstly, after a while the magnet stopped holding the battery in the right position to charge it. This can be circumvented by wrapping the remote's security strap in such a way that the light turns blue, but it's still annoying. Another issue was that the back button on the remote is right on the stand itself. So if the remote turns on when it's placed on the charger (which will likely happen more and more frequently the longer you've owned it, as you won't be able to use it for more than a minute or so before it dies), it starts pressing "B" randomly. USB connector - I used it for my iPod. I would buy it again (and probably buy it) but they should provide spare batteries.

Pros
  • finally bought
Cons
  • embarrassed
