This is a quality machine tool block but it is not solid and therefore relatively light compared to other 3" blocks I have. That lightness and the fact that it's oiled combined with that is a point. In all other respects it will work well for most people and I recommend it. I use it on my drill press to hold a round sided drill bit. It does the job well and the few holes make it easy to attach to the frame if needed. But it stays in place, so in most cases there is no need to screw it in. Looks good when you remove all the oil. While I know mechanics seem to expect tools to be coated in oil, carpenters would prefer their tools to come dry and ready for use.
