The replacement got hot and started smoking

The first had a dead battery. This replacement was fine for a while, but went straight to the bin after I felt it get hot and start smoking. The house smelled terribly of burnt plastic. Remember that I clean the filter regularly so it's not because it's clogged. This thing is a security risk.
