Mainly just wanted this to provide a surface to work on for a PC build that would protect the table top underneath and provide a decent contrast for any small screws that fall off. I didn't use the anti-static cable, but that might be important in some situations. The size was reasonable for my project, but it's not going to cover an entire workbench, or really every table, so make a note of the size if you have or need a large workspace. Ever since I moved to Arizona from a wetter area, I've been getting charged with static electricity. As someone who tinkers with electronics on a regular basis, not having an anti-static mat would be unacceptable. So far I've handled a lot of electronic components on the mat and haven't damaged any, so I'd say it and my grounding strap are doing their job and protecting my devices.

I used this to increase memory in two laptops and to salvage and save devices from about a dozen desktop computers that I attached to the Electronics got sent salvage. This mat does not dissipate static electricity and is totally worthless for what it does. I found that even when I touched the mat, I was still releasing static electricity. First I measured the ground it was connected to and came up with close to zero ohms. Then I measured the resistance in the coiled cord that comes with the device and it read 1 MOhm. "Static Dissipative" involves a high but not infinite surface resistance. I measure this mat with an infinite resistance at a millimeter between measurement points (where I pinned the probes). Did a test of ESD 4.1 and it failed with infinity ohms per square. Also, the resistance of the bracelet cable between the snap button and the banana clip is infinity (should be practically zero).
