Four months ago my son and I started geocaching with the Garmin eTrex Legend. Great little device and it has served us well. However, I've produced enough paper to kill a few forests. I recently made the decision to switch to paperless caching and started looking for a good affordable device that would meet our needs and reduce paper production. take care of what we need. Adding city maps to most GPS systems is expensive and should not be overlooked in the selection process. A $150 device that requires you to buy $100 worth of cards isn't the deal you might have thought you found. Sign up for the bike & hike package. For the same price as most similar devices without street navigation software, Garmin has both street and off-road maps you want. In the time it takes to install the software, you can have your Dakota 10 up and running with the cache you're looking for. You can switch to car mode to get to an area and then recalculate it for off-road navigation. (And yes, it's as simple as tapping the screen.) I love Dakota Bike and Hike. We'll be using it primarily for geocaching, but it's also a great backup for our car GPS, as well as for cycling around our area.
