Dakota 10 also works in Colorado

After years of struggling with multiple buttons in the mud with my e-trex, I wanted a simpler, faster, and lighter GPS for hiking and off-trail hunting. I chose the Dakota 10 because it was an inexpensive touchscreen with reasonable reviews. After downloading the 1:24k topographic map and reading the manual the D-10 was great to use - everything I expected and needed. Four months ago my son and I started geocaching with the Garmin eTrex Legend. Great little device and it has served us well. However, I've produced enough paper to kill a few forests. I bought a Dakota 10 bike/hiking kit for my bike. After looking at MUCH more expensive bike units I figured they would probably have the features I needed at a cheaper price. One of the main features I liked was the fact that the Dakota runs on AA batteries. Battery life is pretty good with alkaline batteries, better with rechargeable NIMH batteries, and using power saving features if you leave the backlight on will chew through the batteries. !
