I have a work laptop with a ThinkPad port replicator. The laptop has a USB-C connector and the port replicator has a USB-C connector. The laptop port replicator cable has USB C on one end and USB C on the other end with a USB A adapter on the other end. I use this to connect my laptop to two external monitors. I wanted this USB-C dual monitor dock to be used as a travel port replicator when working out of town. I use the same setup, laptop and two external monitors when I'm working out of town. I wanted to keep the ThinkPad port replicator connected to my monitors at home and use it when I'm working out of town. This worked flawlessly for my work computer. However, I have a personal laptop that doesn't have a USB-C port and won't work with dual monitors when plugged into this port replicator when the USB-C port is plugged into the USB-A adapter. That's why I sent the port replicator back. I work full time and go to school full time and it helps a lot to have two monitors connected to my work laptop and my school laptop. Since this only works for one machine, the work machine, I don't need this port replicator. I need to buy a ThinkPad port replicator to make both computers work with dual monitors. Besides, it worked great.
