I bought a new switch and was about to plug it in when I saw that the surge protector was already installed. It was one of the standard 5 outlet rectangular surge protectors, connected to two large transformers, each blocking a different outlet, and a standard 2 prong cord. That means 2 out of 5 sockets were wasted and I couldn't plug in my switch. I wanted a surge protector that would actually let me use all available outlets (new concept, right?) and after some searching, I stumbled upon these. It had good reviews so I went ahead and ordered it. I'm glad I did. Now I've got everything plugged in, including my new switch, and there's one more outlet. If your surge protector only has standard two-pronged plugs you probably won't have a problem, but if like most people you have electronics with large, bulky transformers, this is the perfect solution to that problem.
