Tightening shaft connection inadequate
This worked fine for the first pair of boots. It broke when tightening on the second pair of boots. The shaft you turn to tighten and expand the stretcher fits into a universal joint, which enables this to work on a pair of boots rather than just shoes. There is a small pin that goes through the u-joint fitting and secures it to the shaft. That pin broke when I was tightening the stretcher. Now the shaft just spins in the u-joint.
