A little better than chewing gum

I was really hoping for more from these RJ45 connector covers. I knew they were molded and didn't have the plastic spring tongue that's built into all RJ forks, so I expected a fairly tight friction fit. It's a good thing I bought a pack of 50, as the dimensional tolerances on these devices vary greatly. Some fit pretty well, while others were so loose they just rattled and fell out of the jack. Even the ones that were a little tight could easily be knocked out with a light punch. The caps are a hard rubber consistency so I was able to shave off the edges to fit the RJ11 jacks very snugly. However, they are hollow in the middle, so they cannot be shaved any further to fit the "RJ9" (4P4C) earphone jack. I bought these caps to protect the connectors on our computerized telescopes (Celestron CPC 925 and Meade). ETX-125) that use all three connector sizes. Outdoor spotting scopes are subject to dust, bugs and moisture, but with normal use only some of the connectors are pluggable. These pressure caps are better than nothing, but I think I'll be happier just making my own replacements after everything falls out and gets lost. I think one should crimp each connector with no wire inserted and then epoxy the little plastic tab or handle to easily pull the connector out when the spring clip is released.
