They are NOT self-adhesive. They do NOT prevent liquid from getting underneath. You will NOT look good with your fancy granite countertops. If that's what you're looking for, you should get something professional and personal. What they do is they close the gap between your counter and the stovetop so food doesn't end up in that space. And they do great. I originally thought it was hard plastic. They're not - they're flexible, which is to your advantage as they extend to the back of the stove. You should definitely take them out of the packaging right away as they come folded and will take a day or two to unfold. Will my kitchen be at Homes & Gardens? nope! But it wasn't before, and now I don't have to worry about what's lurking by the stove!
