Good Pack for Alpine Routes

Used on the successful ascent of Rainier via the Ingraham Direct route and on the approach to Mount Forbidden in North Cascades National Park. My backpack weighed 45-50 pounds + climbing rope attached at the top under the brain. I've seen a few guides using it on the Rainier. Pros: • Pretty solid overall feel and a good size for a 3-5 day trip • Brain is huge - easily fits a 1L water bottle or 0.5L + camera • Brain has 2 pockets - backpack with pocket opposite, has additional weather protection. Disadvantages: • The backpack's brain doesn't loosen easily (although it tightens fairly well). Some of the 1 star negative reviews: • Are folded or hanging down. There's no place for them." - This is an alpine pack. That's how alpine packs are made - Arc'teryx, Patagonia, etc. This is done on purpose to make the bag as streamlined and light as possible. Store your bottle - Nalgene for example - in the box or applied directly in the cap. I carried 1L in my brain and 1L just in my backpack. Concerned about a bottle leak? You should already line the inside of the backpack with a trash bag to make it waterproof. ( Yes, no raincoat required!) This should prevent accidental spills • "Deadly Pain in Collarbone" - I personally haven't experienced any discomfort, I think it's just a preference If possible, go to the store and try a few packs or order and send back if necessary.
