Only prints a few dozen pages, very expensive

I have had many HP inkjet printers over the years. Cartridges usually last for many months. I was a bit shocked when these XL cartridges ran out within a week or two of installing them. I only printed a few dozen pages so it doesn't make sense to me. They are very expensive for such appallingly poor performance.
