When my Dell Optiplex 760 Small Form Factor (SFF) case suddenly wouldn't boot, several web searches revealed that the power supplies (PS) often failed to build on these computers. . I have followed the troubleshooting procedure: 1) Disconnect all external connections (including power) and open the case, 2) Disconnect all 4 PS connections inside the computer and 3) With the power cord connected to the PS, press the reset button button on the back of the PS to see if it is lit, whether the adjacent green indicator. If not, PS is bad. I also found out that these PSs are Dell proprietary, so even similarly sized generic PS TFXs need to be modified to work with a Dell motherboard. I ordered this PS from Revain and it arrived quickly as advertised. This PS is a direct connect compatible replacement. I installed a new power supply (3 screws and 4 plugs) and the computer works again. One of the reviews mentions noisy fans. These computers have three fans: 1 for the PS, 1 for the CPU and 1 for the hard disk. When you first start the computer all 3 fans spin up at high speed and together they are noisy but after a few seconds it stops. The PS fan is quiet.
