I don't think it would have been possible to remove the filter without this tool. I think those who depend on housing would not survive or possibly give up housing. The dealer screwed the filter too tight. I had to use a 1/2" 18" pry bar to remove it. Even then I was wondering if I would have to buy a cheater. I kept getting worried as I recalled the review here where the tool broke when it had high torque. When it finally started to move, it wouldn't loosen - I had to use almost all my strength on the breaker for two full turns before it loosened enough I was able to use a long-handled 3/8 ratchet to turn it to loosen further so that I could then rotate it by hand.
