Review on πŸš€ Highly Accurate GQ GMC300EPlus Radiation Detector for Ultimate Safety by Jake Powell

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Great device. outdated and poorly functional software

Amazing device for the price. Does anything I want. I did some tests with it and it worked great. I ran tests from known sources. Well done. I even checked the radioactivity of bananas, avocados and nuts. He registered a higher radiation background for these objects than one would expect. I then tried placing my smoke alarm (which contains Americium 241) directly above it and it jumped to 0.68 uSv/h and beeped. By default the alarm is set to 0.50 Β΅Sv/h but is user configurable. But when I reattached the smoke alarm to the ceiling where it belongs, the meter reading dropped to 0.04-0.12 Β΅Sv/h, which appears to be the background level for my room. I tried using a natural uranium ore sample for further testing. This detector reported 27.89 Β΅Sv/h, which is about the same type of ore I have. Units can be changed from Β΅Sv/h, CPM or mR/h. The test tube can be replaced at the end of its service life. which is nice. I've read that lamps can last 6-8 years, some people report longer. It can be recalibrated if necessary. I would give 5 stars until I installed the app. First impressions of GQ GMC Data Viewer on Windows 7. Looks like an outdated and hastily built MFC application with few features and poor aesthetics. On the positive side. Installation was easy. My PC connected to the GMC-300 painlessly with no issues. The application collects data stored on the GMC-300 and also has a real-time display function. The graph is scalable and even has automatic scaling. You can save the data in .csv format for Excel or graphing use. That's all he does. However, if you have programming knowledge, this is an "open protocol" device and they provide information on how to integrate the GMC-300's USB serial connection into your code projects. application error. I have to configure the USB serial COMM port every time I run a program, even though Windows Device Manager can detect and display the correct COMM. I would be very surprised if the USB to Serial API for Windows didn't have a way to detect the COMM port. Even if the API didn't have an easier way, they could still check each comm port until the device responds through one of them. Disappointing. Although the GMC-300 itself has an alarm for high level radiological events, this is not present in the software. The app seems pretty stupid. take the data from the GMC-300 and put it there in this file and don't do anything else with it. I installed a demo of GQ Geiger professional Counter Data Logger app which charges an additional $9.99 to activate. This is intended to be a more feature rich version of the GQ GMC Data Viewer app. Honestly. Why companies are still using "9.99" I'll never know. It's $10, just say $10. Seriously, are we all four years old? So I could take a penny off their $10 program; what do I get for it It still looks like the old UI of the app that came with the GMC-300. There are several other options for showing units of measure over time. The real-time chart seems a bit more useful as it shows the average over time and not just the counted hits over time, which is an improvement over the included app. I don't know what the averaging window is; it says not. I'd guess within a few seconds because it seems to be going up and down a curve pretty close to hits per second per second. I still have to configure the COMM port on every boot. This gives you a few more ways to view the data. I assume some options are grayed out because I'm running the demo. There is an OCOC wizard that is inactive; don't know what it does. Also the gray FTP menu; that sounds exciting. and a gray "other" menu. So are you joining the others in Lost? I know. a bad joke. In conclusion, I really wanted to give the GMC-300 five stars. The device itself deserves five stars, but since I'm rating the entire product, including the ability to interact with a computer and the software that comes with it, I can't. On the application side, I would wish for a little more effort. Please GQ Electronics improve the whole package including PC interface. Please make this product as I know it. Overall still a great product but I need a better way to use the data without writing my own program which I don't have time for. I would pay for a fully featured app, but your 9.99 app doesn't have enough obvious features. Update: Mac support would be nice too. I have a few Mac-using friends who would be interested. Porting software to Mac can be done without too much hassle and can attract a lot more customers.
