Do I need a battery but mine didn't work
ugh. With power cords, you think this thing doesn't need a battery, right? No it is not, it has a battery and cannot be replaced. . Anyway it wasn't expensive so I installed it according to the instructions. There is no RPM display, instructions are poorly written, actual wire gauge is so small it's a joke. Sorry I can't find anything good about it, I'll install and remove the defective item.
