Cool gadget. I was looking for ways to enclose tools and electronics in a dorm room. Bought some ottomans and thought they looked a lot funnier than key locks. Bought two sets to test. Each came with three cards and three keychains. I bought batteries (separately), installed a master key fob and added the same two locks. Very easy to program, I quickly added all the cards and fobs to control both locks. After playing with it for a while, we decided to install it. There were no instructions, but installation was very easy. The locks came with all the hardware needed for a full installation. The only tools we used were a drill with a mallet and chalk. For the chest, we first found the height needed for the device. Then mounted the battery box on the side panel. I marked the back of the part that needed to be attached to the lid. This gave us exactly the right place to install and repair. I tried a few times to make sure we lined it up correctly and then tightened it up. Probably ten minutes or less to install, mostly just double checking to make sure it's there. As a bonus, the map and keychain work through the ottoman's wooden wall. My son put the card in his wallet and brought it to him to unlock and it worked every time. In the end we didn't have to drill anything. One box had a sticker to put on the outside as a target to know where to mount your Rifd device. But it will make people aware that there is something inside them. They were just installed so I don't know anything about the lifespan of these devices. who knows, maybe in the future we'll curse them if they don't open. So far, so good. How tight. My son was able to lift the entire ottoman by grabbing the lid and the lock would not open. Love the ease of installation and the addition of a fun gadget to a boring ottoman that would be a dorm room foot locker.
