I can see where some people might have trouble when using it for the first time. The instructions are really not very good. Some tips that I hope will help: The black part detaches from the handle depending on whether valve holders are installed or removed. You only need to remove the handle part, not the black part. When removing, try to compress the spring by hand first. They just want to use enough force to free the Guardians. When assembling, make sure that the black part is in the silver handle, grease the brackets with grease. Slide the spring and spring head onto the valve and install the retainers in the spring head hole. Place the tip of the black part of the tool against the clips and hold it in the spring cap. Gently press the tool. The outside of the black end of the tool should go over the holders and hold them in place. Then center everything and tap the tool with a hammer. Again, you should only use the minimum amount of force required to land the goalies. If you use too much force, the goalies will not sit down.
