Review on Fowler 72 646 300 Cylinder Dial Gauge by Anthony Jagers

Revainrating 5 out of 5

All you need is in the caliper and nothing more. .

I've been using Fowler instruments for decades and the philosophy behind their design has been surprisingly consistent. They are rather sparsely designed, no-frills tools where the emphasis is on performance and nothing else. With careful handling and proper storage, they will provide consistent and accurate results suitable for most but not the most precise machining tasks and will last a lifetime. This caliper is typical of Fowler in that regard. Some internal parts are alloy steel rather than stainless steel and may need a light lubrication every few years depending on use. Most of us don't use calipers that often. For us, the base is fine. If you're willing to invest in that kind of maintenance, including a few drops of oil from time to time, and always keeping a dial indicator with a plastic surface prone to scratching or breaking in the case that came with it, then this should be good for you. This was an unpaid review. I have nothing to do with Fowler. When it comes to precision instruments, I value good value for money.
