This unit looked good when I received it and was easy to set up and use. I typically make a gallon of distilled water a day, so I've made about 180 gallons so far. During this time I changed the carbon filter twice. My current concern is that the interior of the device, which claims to be stainless steel, will have stains and limescale that won't come off, although I do clean the interior before each use. I have a very similar still at my dacha, bought from Sears a few years ago, which I use to distill seawater into drinking water, and the inside of this still is always cleaned well with dish soap and a ScotchBrite sponge. Just like I do with my stainless steel sink, I'm wondering what's up with HaoFest. I tried their recommended cleaning method using the granules that came with the device in a plastic container but it didn't work very well and I was concerned about using the granules as their ingredients were not listed on the container. When preparing your drinking water you want to be aware of this and although I did rinse the water well afterwards I was still concerned about possible residual toxicity. When nothing else helped to clean the interior I also tried a steel wool Brillo pad, but even that had very little effect on the scale and it strikes me as very odd. The whole idea of stainless steel is to prevent stain and scale build-up.
