Sony D-NE306CK works as advertised. I bought mine primarily for use as a CD/MP3 player in a van. Music by Sony for the Vans sound system. There is some noise from the cassette adapter, but I've found that turning the volume down on the van's stereo combined with turning up the volume on the Sony pretty much eliminates the hiss. Passport protection works great. My town has a lot of rough roads and there hasn't been any skipping in G-Pro 1 mode so far. The 2 line dot matrix display shows all ID3 tag information except the year. That might be a small loss. Songs in MP3 format recorded at 192kbps sound good. At this speed, about 90-100 songs can be recorded on 1 CD-R. This unit performs random play for both CDs with a track and CDs with folders. The folder names are shown on the display. The parametric equalizer has several default settings as well as a user setting to adjust bass-mid-treble using the menu button. If you use Sony with headphones or portable speakers, this is a good option. But I've found that using sound settings has a negative effect on the van's sound output, so it's best to leave the sound setting as it is. there. Battery life has been excellent so far. Not sure what it will be yet as I've only had it 1-1/2 weeks but I've got over 20 hours on 2200 nimh batteries and the battery indicator on the display is still lit. I also use the player at my work with Panasonic RP-SPT70 portable speakers and Sound 1st Rating! The 306 gets as loud as you want, and the Pany speakers impress with their size. All in all, at only $69, the Sony is a good buy, maybe even a great buy! This player works as advertised and has many great features. highlighted.
