The lock is inexpensive and of equally poor quality. I was correct in assuming the steel cable was strong enough for my purposes, but the attachment point is very weak and doesn't attach securely to the laptop. If you're looking for more visual containment, this lock will work for you. But if you're trying to stop someone from actually yanking it and running away with your laptop, go for the more expensive alternative. This lock can be picked without tools.
