This is exactly the same item as the Vantec NexStar NST-272S3 except that it has a USB 3.0 C connector for data/power and a DC 3.5mm connector for extra has power supply. Vantec has USB 3.0 Micro B for data/power and USB 3.0 Mini B for auxiliary power only. I decided to "upgrade" to USB-C because I was having trouble with one of my Micro-B connections - it didn't always work. It turned out to be the cable, not the Vantec. Anyway, this box works fine, only the 3.5mm jack is unreliable. If you wiggle the power plug, you may hear a faint click inside the box. This is not good. If you want to rely on USB-C for power, this RAID unit works great. But if you need extra power, you could be in trouble. I use HDDs in my RAID arrays for two reasons: first, they use less power than SSDs, and second, I don't trust SSDs for long-term storage yet. Data. Will my data still be there in five or ten years? I do not know. I have decided to return this product for a refund and stick with my Vantecs (I have six of them).
