Review on NGK CR9EHIX 9 Iridium Spark Plug by Eddy Borghesi

They fit my 2007 Honda CB900F 919 Hornet. Walked around these spark plugs with an NGK rep who helped me. I originally wanted Accel's silver spark plugs that I use in my car but they don't seem to have them for the bike and after much discussion with the rep I settled on NGK (6216) CR9EHIX-9 Iridium IX spark plugs Iridium . Nines are meant for racing, which I don't, but he suggested they would be good for smooth acceleration, such as when cruising on the freeway. Probably the biggest problem was torque. NGK recommends 7.2 to 8.7 ft-lbs of torque, but when you get the plugs, the box says 1/2 turn, which turns out to be a lot more than 8 ft-lbs. The instructions say to tighten it 1/2 turn, unscrew it, and then tighten it 1/8 turn again. Well, 1/2 turn seems a lot tighter than they should be, so I ended up tightening the plugs about 1/4 turn or so, but not tight, and then unscrewing them (just like the instructions say). says) and set them to 8 ft lbs plus a boost because 8 ft lbs feels a bit loose, although the plugs I took out (not sure if they were factory adjusted or someone else's) felt small ( all technical terms!) except manual tightening. We used to clean and reuse corks and simply swap out stretch rings because they needed to "seat" properly. We didn't tighten them, didn't loosen them, and then twisted them, maybe something changed. I didn't have a factory outlet so I bought a regular deep hole and used a swivel and extension to pull the plugs out. I loosened the tank end screws, moved the tank back and lifted it. I read later that you should get in from the side of the radiator. Oh good. I couldn't find a 16mm head with rubber inside, but I used what looks like a piece of rubber tubing on the handle that plugs in and holds while you thread. I assume a 5/8 spark plug head with rubber inside would work. I've gapped the spark plugs, but I think I'll leave them on next time because I don't think increasing the gap to the recommended gap will noticeably increase combustion. Effect for my use and the forks I received were within the factory release range. The plug wires only seemed to go one way, but next time I'll label them and take a picture so I don't waste time making sure I have them on the right plugs. Like it wouldn't work, right? Much luck!
