Review on 🔒 POP & LOCK - Ford/Mazda Manual Tailgate Lock, PL2310 (Traditional Style) (Exclusively Fits Factory Plastic Handle) (Black) by Joe Martin

Bought for my 2008 Ford Ranger. The instructions were pretty basic as other reviews have noted. Make sure you have a Torx 30 screwdriver to remove the tailgate cover. This lock did not fit well enough on the tailgate handle. It was machined too large so when I tried to fit the locking mechanism to the handle the lock was about 3mm from where it was supposed to slide into the handle. I had to file the metal on the lock to make it fit snugly against the handle. I was able to do this using a set of manual files from Home Depot, but it took me about 45 minutes to finally install it. If you have some sort of electrical engineering that can do this for you, it will likely be a lot quicker and easier. Aside from not fitting perfectly, installation was pretty easy. The locking mechanism itself is very simple, it's just a piece of metal that is inserted into the handle when you lock it to prevent it from being lifted all the way to release the gate switch. The overhead gate mechanism is also fairly simple, it's a scissor switch that you unscrew from the handle with 10mm nuts, install the lock and then screw back on. If it had fitted perfectly, I could have done it in about 20 minutes. Whatever it was, it took about 1.5 hours to figure out why and where it didn't fit properly and feed it manually. - 1 star because it doesn't fit - 1 star because it's ridiculously expensive for what it is. These parts probably cost less than $5 to make, and I paid $60 for them. It even feels a bit cheap (the locking mechanism isn't very strong and bangs). However, as other people have mentioned, this seems to be your only option at the moment if you need a tailgate lock on these models. And it works.
