Excellent bag. I had a previous 2016 Daystar that I needed to replace, so I decided to try the newer version. While the Essentials bag doesn't have the smaller mesh compartments of the 2016 model, the new model expands to easily accommodate jackets and snacks and features an air channel to keep your back cool. The best and most improved feature is the pocket placement. You'll spend less time looking for things in your bag, which was an issue with the 2016 model. In my opinion the perfect everyday bag - very comfortable and practical for a short hike. I ordered maroon but it's more of a true cardinal red, maybe a little darker. It didn't really affect my opinion of the bag's functionality and pocket volume, so I still give it 5 stars.
