I recently purchased this item to replace a Westmark egg slicer I bought last year and broke pretty quickly as it broke fairly quickly. If I had paid attention to the fact that it was the same company, I probably would not have been there. I'm glad I missed it. It's more expensive, but light years better. It looks and feels solid while still doing a GREAT job. So far I've used it to cut both hard-boiled eggs and mushrooms with no problem. Unlike other Westmark slicers, this one doesn't have thin, coated wires that can easily break. I think you get what you are willing to pay for as this one was more expensive.
