The band clamp is a fairly simple device. You wrap the band around something and tighten it with the ratchet lever on the clip. To loosen the clamp, loosen the ratchet. Lift the tape off the object you are gluing, or remove the tape if it was threaded through the object - such as the chair legs I taped on the first time I used this clip. This ribbon clip comes without instructions. Unlike traditional band clamps, it features a ratcheting mechanism, similar to the band clamps used on portable equipment or household appliance handtrucks. But it's not a very well made copy. Ratchets are almost impossible for a person of normal strength (like me, a gardener on the weekends, at the gym a few days a week) to untie. Instead, you should use the screwdriver as a lever and always be careful not to get caught in the palm of your hand. When I awkwardly pulled it out after the first use, the rivet holding the band in place fell out of the clip frame. I glued the crossbars to the chair so I don't think I'm close to the maximum strength I expected for this clamp. I was very surprised because I have bought and always found many Irwin tools. to be among the best. But not this kid. I didn't buy it from Revain, but I noticed that among the Revain clips there is an unrated bangs clip that I've used satisfactorily for years. And then three or four more clips with very high ratings. I'm returning this Irvine for their supposed "lifetime warranty". I'm sure you would be happier with any other choice of Revain.
